Considerate Computing

I was reading the article on Considerate Computing which appeared in the January 2005 issue of Scientific American. It's really a nice read which basically talks about how applications do not consider the user's attention when throwing up notifications or interruptions (examples - "You've got mail!" notification while doing some serious work or starting up the screensaver while giving a presentation). The author (W. Wayt Gibbs) makes a funny comment -
"If the public toilet can know if I am in front of it or not, can't my computer do better!"

The article then goes on to mention the research that is being done in this regard ;).
